Barbecued Ribs

Description A slow-cooker recipe...very good....

  • 3 1/2 pounds pork loin back ribs
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1/2 cup cola or water
  • One hour before it\'s done....
  • 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce
  1. Spray inside of 5 to 6 quart slow cooker with cooking spray.
  2. Remove inner skin from ribs.
  3. Mix brown sugar, pepper, garlic and salt; rub mixture into ribs.
  4. Cut ribs into about 4 inch pieces.
  5. Layer ribs ond onion in slow cooker.
  6. Pour cola over ribs.
  7. Cover and cook on low heat setting 8 to 9 hours or until ribs are tender.
  8. Remove ribs from cooker.
  9. Drain liquid from cooker and discard.
  10. Pour barbecue sauce into shallow bowl. Dip ribs into sauce. Place ribs in cooker.
  11. Pour any remaining sauce over ribs.
  12. Cover and cook on low heat setting 1 hour.
  13. Or after you drain the liquid, you can transfer it to a glass pan and coat the ribs with barbeque sauce and bake in a preheated 375 degree oven until the sauce carmelizes and sticks to the meat, about 10 to 15 minutes.
Additional Tips
Cola adds a wonderful sweetness to the ribs, but you can use water instead if you don't have any cola on hand. Pork ribs are by far the most popular choice for barbecued ribs, but try beef short ribs for a change. Trim any excess fat from the short ribs before adding them to the cooker. Serving suggestion...potato salad and baked beans make for an easy, old-fashioned barbecued rib dinner....yum!
